Challenge:

We were asked to work on a complex role for an established client of ours, part of a Group listed on the London Stock Exchange.

The position was for a Managing Director for one of their subsidiaries in Italy. The Italian unit consisted of a well established highly technical and expert team, but some recent complacency and lack of commercial drive, made it urgent and sensitive to find them a new Managing Director.

It was clear we needed a progressive leader to win the respect of the teams quickly, someone who was already a Managing Director, while having the experience of running a P&L of >€30M

Solution:

After an exhaustive candidate search into the relevant areas within the electronics market across Italy, we discovered that the majority of the Managing Directors we were managing small teams of less than 10 people and P&Ls of less than €4m

On collaborating closely with the acting MD, a compromise was found and a CTO with experience of running a large P&L was considered. The candidate was excited by the challenge as it aligned with his own plans for a career progression.

Outcome:

After intensive interviewing and business plan assessment, management felt comfortable with the candidate’s ability to deliver in the role. Currently the candidate continues to progress in his first career role as Managing Director.
